The Iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge

13/08/2018

Unveiled in 1932, the Sydney Harbour Bridge, also nicknamed the Coathanger, measures one hundred and thirty-four metres in height and over five hundred metres in length. It was the brainchild of civil engineer John Bradfield, who at first wanted to build a suspension or cantilever bridge. Advancements in steelmaking circa 1922 made it possible for the construction of an arch bridge. Held together by six million hand-driven rivets, the architectural marvel today serves as a transportation link for rail, vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
